RUBY – ADOPTED!
Ruby did so well during our day together! She had no issues hopping into the back seat of my small SUV – anything higher she might need assistance with. She has excellent car manners and seems to enjoy car rides – her nose was out the window the whole time, and there was no barking at passing people or dogs.
We went to San Miguel Park and I let Ruby guide us along whichever trails she liked for a good hour. She’s very polite on a leash and was fine passing other people on the trails. We did see a few dogs as well, and while she was alert when she noticed them, she didn’t bark or lunge. The only time she got noticeably excited was when a man passed by on a bike with his dogs running next to him, but it seemed like a playful reaction to me. She does seem to have a prey drive. I had to pull her back a few times when we heard/ saw a critter just off trail, but she didn’t get carried away.
After the walk, we cooled down at a shady bench, drank a ton of water, and people-watched for a while. Since she liked the car so much we went on another ride before heading back to the shelter.
Ruby started out pretty aloof, but by the end of the day she had relaxed and was attempting to do zoomies in the backseat and finally started accepting treats I was giving her. She also asked for a belly rub 🙂
